CAPE

Gold ink, marker and india ink.

I always wanted to depict the cape as something that had some flexible structure, like an umbrella.
So when Batman moves it around, it is actually a terrifying and chaotic sight.
Imagine an umbrella suddenly reversing itself under harsh wind conditions.
It isn't soft, but edgy with small joints.
Like ... a bat!

WALLY WOOD 22 PANELS REVISITED

Grabbed a few Wally Wood panels online that depict his original 22 Panels.
There's going to be panels out there that better suit some of his descriptions, especially the panels that contain the ben day
treatment, but this is a good start.

PRIMAL

Just realized how much Kirby is ingrained into my databanks after re-scanning some old HUNTED boards.
I wanted to draw the images quickly with a broad brush - manifest the ambient intensity of combat instead of
focusing on a single detail. Less about recognizing actors, but harness the spontaneity of the moment.

And traces of Kirby NEW GODS battles must have been on deck for this. Surprised I didn't add krackle.

GREEN LANTERN

Saw this up online and decided to tweak the colors a bit to match more of the comics rendition.
Mask shape ala Neal Adams version and added the gloves and black accents.

Did this pretty fast so its a bit rough around the edges.

CLOSEUP

Rick Magyar inked my pencils for TOPPS comics adaptation of the Frank Darabont scripted, Kenneth Branagh directed and Francis Ford Coppola produced FRANKENSTEIN.

This was done during the time I was inking CHIAROSCURO for Vertigo and still pencilling CONAN THE ADVENTURER.
Drank lots of coffee back in those days.

I think Rick did a great job on the inks. I only had about three pages of slides to work from and there was no online database to grab any screencaps or concept art so I was winging much of it. I didn't know how the finished film would look since I was already on the fourth issue when it finally hit the theaters.

Roy Thomas on the script and it's always a breeze working with Roy.

The film wasn't critically received but it had its moments and I still enjoy DeNiro's take on the monster.

Another plus was that John Bolton and Tim Bradstreet did some exceptional covers at the time for the comic series.

KERIS

KERIS

More concerned with fast action applied at various angles than line weight here.
Focused on small swirls and curves without staying on one spot too long.

This is not a still life of an actual keris but odds and ends gathered from various keris I have seen.
Since accuracy was not my primary goal here, I added a few details that are uncommon to these beautiful blades.

ABOUT THE PEN:

I was shopping for Copic markers for a few side pieces I am finishing up on (sucks when the markers run dry in the middle of a project) when I came across this row of cool looking pens with strange caps.

Koh-I-Noor Nexus Pens are archival quality, lightfast and fine line waterproof.

Test driving the Koh-i-noor Nexus pens was fun, and I will certainly add these to the toolbox.
